Big Changes!

I've spent a lot of time thinking hard about Tiny Orchard Quilts and what it is I really love to do.  After a lot of thinking, I've come to the decision to end fabric sales. I love fabric--really!  However, it takes a lot of time to order, sort, manage inventory, deal with taxes, paperwork, and create all the listings for each fabric.  That time that is taken away from other goals--like writing patterns, making youtube video tutorials, and working on my own quilts.  My remaining inventory will be up in my Etsy Shop. Now--the more exciting side of the coin!  I have a STACK of quilt designs that have been sitting around waiting for my time.  I have three currently...

The Scrappening!

I finally decided to take the plunge and do something I’ve considered for a very long time: cutting up the scraps.  I talked myself out of it many times: why cut up a piece of fabric before you know what you want to do with it?  What if I need a size other than these standard sizes I’ve chosen?  Won’t it take FOREVER?   I decided these were all valid points, so I never cut the my scraps, I just jammed them in the baskets. Reading Challenge Quilt

I love browsing through the year long quilt projects like the temperature quilt on Instagram. I’ve thought about making one for years now but never managed to get motivated enough to start. The quilts are gorgeous but...temperature?  I just couldn’t get into it.    Then I started thinking about other resolutions and ways to mark my year. Reading more is always one of my life goals, so why not incorporate that into a quilt?  The reading challenge quilt was born!     Each day is represented by a 3.5” square with a bar extending through the days each book is in progress. I usually have 2-3 going at a time but there are pattern options for you one at a...

Fire in the Sky for Curated Quilts

This little 13x13 quilt is my submission for Curated Quilt's next issue.  The theme for this issue is curves and I used the selected color palette to piece together some improve curves. I've been wanting to try out an idea about including the raw edge of the selvedges in a quilt.  I find their furry little texture really fun and this seemed like a perfect place for it.  After I pieced it, I handquilted it with chartreuse, white, and pink thread.  I decided to go with a facing for this quilt since a binding would be proportionally large. If my quilt is selected, I'll be shipping it off to Curated Quilts in January!  I don't often make many mini quilts...
