This quilt is one of my favorites--I love the softer rainbow effect the ombre fabrics give this design. Its a really nice departure from some of my more over the top rainbow designs (even though I love those too!)
Since I made this quilt top over a year ago, I've made a concerted effort to move away from white as my standard quilt background color. Trying all these new colors has really stretched my color muscles and when I returned to this quilt, it was actually refreshing to see all that crisp nice white!
I used white thread on this quilt to match the white fabric and a soft gray in the bobbin to blend a little with the colorful backing fabric. I don't usually contrast thread colors but I wish I would have gone a little more drastic on the bobbin thread so it blended even more. The super white Glide thread I used had an extra bonus though--it glows under black light!! It made checking all those little points even easier!
I'm really happy with the end result on this one--Emma was also excited and couldn't even wait for me to fully take it off the longarm before coming over to check it out.
Have you made an Ombre Blooms quilt? I'd love to hear about it!
